Another clothing Scam - `Donotdelay` - Breast cancer.

Postby eyeballpaul » Wed Nov 11, 2009 2:51 pm

Had one of their bags through my door and would urge people not to donate, this is not a charity, is a commercial company refused collection licences in several UK councils after not proving what they give to charity.

Another Eastern European con.

Some links.

and from Lancashire:

"
Doorstep Crime Update- Clothing Collection for Cancer Prevention - 5 September 2008

Lancashire residents are asked to be wary about a bogus clothing collection company which is currently targeting the county.

Lancashire Trading Standards Service has received information about a company which leafleted households in the Fulwood and Chorley areas this week, and may now be heading elsewhere.

The leaflets are headed with Do Not Delay, bear a ribbon motif as background print and claim the company is collecting on behalf of a breast cancer protection programme for women in Europe , connected to stock collector Intersecond Ltd. Intersecond Ltd has stated that c lothing collection has been cancelled from 01/08/2007 in England until further notice. They state further that any leaflet distribution or clothing collection from this date using the Intersecond Ltd name will be fraudulent and will not be associated with the company.

If consumers have spare clothing and wish to donate it to a charity, it is advisable to give to an organisation you recognise or have had dealings with before. Look for a registered charity number on the flyer, rather than just a registered company number, and check it with the Charities Commission. Also look for manned landline numbers rather than mobile numbers or no numbers at all. If there is any doubt, bag the unwanted clothing and take it straight to the shop of your choice, or to one of the collection points in supermarket car parks.
Please refer any complaints to Lancashire Trading Standards Service, 56-58 Guildhall Street , Preston, Lancashire via Consumer Direct tel 08454 040506. If there is any threat or fear of burglary contact the police at once "

What evil Bar Stewards!

Not only are they conning money out of 'us', they are also harming the legitimate charities as (rightly) suspicious people will refrain from donating. :-X

I got an interesting one through this weekend from 'Gamelea Farm'.

It was a plain white A4 sheet with grey lettering. Talking about rescuing certain animals and things. It was horrendously badly written, gramatically poor, and there were spelling mistakes all over the place.

It might be genuine, might not, can anyone shed any light?

I received that one a few weeks ago. No disrespect, but it got binned like most of them.
We haven't actually got anything to donate to them.

GameLea Farm works with people, some, with 'Special Needs'.
Celia's Taxis used to have a regular contract with GameLea.
Me and our lass covered the job for months.

I actually wondered if the leaflet I received had been 'made', by the 'students' at GameLea ?
Many of the leaflets or letters Celia's receive from 'Our Vision', another adult special needs group
we have a contract with are done by the members themselves.
Does the charity number on the leaflet you received, match the number on the weblink by Pete.
It might put my/our minds at rest about the authenticity of the leaflet.

Or did you bin it as well :(
Doesn't expecting the unexpected make the unexpected expected. Therefore meaning you're expecting the expected, which was the unexpected until you expected it ?

My gf suggested it may have been done by one of the students actually.

I'm pretty sure it's still at home so i'll try and get it checked out this weekend :)

Do the bogus charities sell the clothes on? If so where?

There are people at the side of BHS in town, in the alley going back to the loo's and carpark.
They buy gold. And seem to be doing a good trade.
Who do they sell the gold to ?

If 'We', knew who they sold the gold to, why don't we sell our gold to them direct.

Profit on every level.
Bag of clothes or hand me downs. Free. Gratis.
Sell it, for a % commission, profit :D

Use a false name, charity number etc. Post thousands of bags and leaflets to households. At your cost.
Are you guaranteed a profit, can you 'sell' the bags of junk ?

Some people obviously are, and do or try.
And getting away with it :eeek:

Every charity has to use a 'gimmick' for want of a better word these days - which is why the false 'charities use them too. It makes it hard to sort out which is the false one.
